Teenagers have created online tours of Ukraine on their own

From 11th till 14th of October, as part of the EU Code Week and the international Meet-and-Code initiative, an online workshop and competition called "Location Seekers" took place at the Polissia National University. The event was free, and anyone interested could join, regardless of their level of preparation and experience.

More than 30 talented teenagers participated in "Location Seekers," including residents of Zhytomyr and its surrounding areas: the villages of Behun, Vakulenchiuk, Korosten, Kolodiazne, Kamenyi Brid, Ovruch, Polovetske, Norintsy, Khoroshyn, Brusilov, Pulyny, Vysoka Pich, Sloboda-Selets, Novohuyvinske, Ruzhin, Andrushivka. There were also participants from other cities in Ukraine, such as Lviv, Dnipro, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi region, and Kyiv region.

COMPETITION TASKS

Young programming enthusiasts tried their hand at creating their own virtual tourist routes and presenting the historical, natural, or cultural landmarks of their region. Experienced mentors from the Noosphere Engineering School supported and guided the participants in creating their projects during this online event, which took place at the Polissia National University. Participants learned innovative methods of working with online maps using the ArcGIS GIS framework.

RESULTS OF LOCATION SEEKERS

On October 14, the competition finalists presented 13 virtual tours and 32 picturesque locations in the Zhytomyr region and other parts of Ukraine to the jury. Among the locations processed by the finalists, notable places included: Zhytomyr, Dnipro, Kolodiivka village (Romaniv district), Luka village, Ozerne village, Andrushivka, Korostyshiv, Kamyanyi Brod town, Berdychiv, Polovetske village (Berdychiv district), and Pylypets village. The authors created the photos and unique descriptions themselves, making each project special and full of inspiration from the young participants. The winners of the competition were Alexander Shcherbaniuk from Bila Tserkva and Alexander Mykolaychuk from Norintsi. Additional prizes from the jury were also awarded to Inna Fedoruk from Kolodyazhne and Ksenia Kozunova from Dnipro. They will receive awards and gifts from the Noosphere Engineering School.


The competition was organized by the Noosphere Engineering School and the Department of Computer Technologies and Systems Modeling at Polissia National University. The event took place as part of the EU Code Week and the Meet and Code initiative, which is implemented with the support of the Resource Center of GURT (a portal for socially active citizens) in collaboration with Techsoup Europe and Stifterhelfen Hausdes Stiftens organizations with SAP financing.
