The World Air Sports Federation FAI and Noosphere signed a technical partnership agreement in February 2017, which was followed quickly by a new Ukrainian Innovation tournament, “Best device for FAI” on May 27th.
The FAI was established more than 100 years, and FAI President Frits Brink and Secretary General Susanne Schödel are eager to engage more youth in the sports they offer by setting up and developing an initiative to modernize their competitions and scoring systems. This mission has been taken on by several enthusiasts from Ukraine.
Six Ukrainian teams competed to develop a new device for air balloon competitions. The new, interesting project will come up with a way to automatically read the measurement devices on the balloons and display the result to the public in real-time.
The tournament brought together participants from Cherkasy State Technological University, Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University (Mykolaiv), National University of Water and Environmental Engineering (Rivne), National Aviation University (Kyiv), Zaporizhzhia State Engineering Academy, and the Noosphere Engineering School. The projects were judged by representatives of FAI, Ukrainian Spacemodelling Sport Federation, and Noosphere. The panel of judges was chaired by Michael Ryabokon, Cofounder of Noosphere Association.
We would like to congratulate the three teams, Cherkasy State Technological University, Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University and Noosphere Engineering School, who created viable solutions and received cash prizes.
The teams are already getting busy on the next stage which will require a lot of work to build their solutions. The winners have three months to make their prototypes that will be used at the FAI Hot Air Balloon competition in September 2017, and the best solution will be chosen. We wish them all the best as they build solutions that will provide the FAI with a new, innovative tool for their competitions, as well as demonstrate the ingenuity and know-of of the Ukrainian specialists.
