On August 24, developers at the Noosphere Engineering School launched the “My Police” application, available on Google Play Store . It is now possible to use the application to send an SOS signal with a single click, rate the performance of police officers and leave anonymous feedback on a specific officer. You can even read police news or find the nearest police station on an interactive map.
To use the application, you just need to register and allow the application to make calls and send SMS messages, along with providing access to your geolocation data. After that you will have access to the key functions and in particular, to the SOS button. If you hold the SOS button for a few seconds it will automatically send an alert to the police hotline to call for immediate aid.
The application also has basic instructions about what to do in emergency situations such as traffic accidents or if you witness suspicious behavior or a crime. On the interactive map you can find the nearest police station with instructions on how to get there. Another interesting function is the ability to rate police officer performance. If you have a complaint or compliment you just need to enter the ID number of the officer's badge and enter your feedback.
The Dnipro patrol police partnered in the initiative and the application is currently only integrated into their services. Plans are already in the works to collaborate with police departments in other cities.
Dmitry Podvorchansky, head of the project, told the AIN online resource, “We hope that after seeing how well the application operation works, we will begin negotiations with the administration of patrol police of Ukraine. We are going to launch My Police in Lviv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, Kyiv and Odesa.” He added that these launches will depend on the interest of the patrol police chiefs in each of the cities to introduce new innovations.
In the meantime you can download the application for Android. The IOS version is coming soon. Follow us on social media to stay informed on all our latest news!
